The public, especially cyclists, are advised to comply with safety regulations for cyclists on the road to reduce the risk of road accidents involving fatality. Brunei Darussalam Road Safety Council or MKKJR highlighted this during the MKKJR Media Conference on Safety Control of Bicycle Users on the Road, 28th March morning. Deputy Permanent Secretary for Transport at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications as Secretary of MKKJR, also shared alternative routes suggestions, by taking into account the Share The Road concept for all road users. Awang Haji Mohammad Salihin bin Haji Aspar, also shared a proposal to ban cycling on roads with speed limits of more than 65 kilometres per hour, including roads with speed limits such as 70 kilometres per hour, 80 kilometres per hour and 100 kilometres per hour.

Among the routes banned for cycling are Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Highway; Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah Highway; Muara-Tutong Highway; Tutong-Telisai Highway; Telisai-Lumut Highway; Lumut- Belait Highway; Rimba Highway; Tungku Highway and Tungku Jerudong Highway. The routes has been identified and categorised as a high-risk route for cyclists. The ban also takes into account best practices in other countries of restricting cycling activities on high-speed routes to ensure the safety of all road users.

Meanwhile, cycling events and sports activities that require using the route can be considered and must provide complete safety measures. In addition, cycling events and sports activities must also receive support from recognised sports bodies and submit applications for consideration by the MKKJR.
